The Mosaic Institute is a Canadian charitable institution that advances pluralism in societies and peace amongst nations. The Mosaic Institute brings together communities and peoples separated by strife, to foster mutual understanding and to resolve conflicts.
The Mosaic Institute is a charitable not-for-profit organization founded in 2007. We are a national platform that amplifies the voices of Canada’s diverse communities.
We believe that an equitable and thriving society is made possible when different people experience themselves as valued members of society, which begins with being heard.
We strive to demonstrate that our differences are not problems; they do not need to be masked, ignored, or tolerated.
Instead, at The Mosaic Institute we believe that we need to engage with and leverage our differences, because our differences are in fact an important source for solutions to our shared social issues.
We conduct research that is thoughtful and rigorous.
We create spaces for young people to learn, collaborate, and speak.
We showcase how diversity and difference can be a source for valuable solutions to social challenges at home and abroad.
The Mosaic Institute is a think-and-do tank which brings together people, communities, and nations to advance pluralism and reduce conflict. We operate through Track II diplomacy; people-to-people engagement to foster mutual understanding and to create strategies for peaceful coexistence.
We believe that Canada's diversity is not a problem to be solved, but rather the solution to many of Canada's and the world's conflicts.
We bring groups at strife to a common table for talks, to share their experiences and positions, to build mutual empathy and understanding and to create common ground.
Dialogue. We are a platform for innovative peace dialogues that bring different people together to learn, and act, to end conflict. We bring groups at strife to a common table for talks, to share their experiences and positions, to build mutual empathy and understanding and to create common ground.
Research. Our work is built on a foundation of rigorous, impartial, public research. We believe that the shortest path to peaceful solutions is the one that follows truth. We replace conjecture with empirical data to get at the real barriers and drivers of social conflict and inequity. Our research brings together leading experts and amplifies the voices and perspectives of diverse people in order to shift public perceptions from reductive thinking to nuanced understanding.
Action. We deploy programs that develop the skills and qualities in youth to become the next generation of leaders in inclusion and pluralism. We also hold public events to raise the level of discourse and engagement on issues related to conflict, our responsibilities towards one another, our legitimate expectations of one another, and Canada’s place in the world.
2012 CRRF Award of Excellence, Community
The Mosaic Institute. Sector: Community. The Mosaic Institute is a "think and do" tank that works closely with Canada's ethno-cultural communities who have cultural, social, and familial ties to entrenched conflicts to explore ways in which Canadians' commitment to pluralism and peace can help to reduce conflict and to promote development. Through its South Asian-Canadian Global Citizenship Project, the Mosaic Institute enabled the sharing of common experiences and helped increase participants' attachment to Canada and to each other. The project also encouraged them to become more involved in helping to define and enhance Canada's contributions to peace and development in the world.
